Extensive renovations and addition to an existing fitness center and pool facility. The building insulation system had failed over the course of just a few years, due to the combination of the insulation system used, the high humidity of the pool environment, and the extreme climate of Stowe, VT.
The facility includes an 8-lane, 25 meter competition pool, tot pool, program room, spinning room, cardio room, Cybex and free-weight room, men's and woman's locker rooms, meeting room, offices, and reception area.
Work included renovations and modifications of the existing mechanical systems and controls, and new mechanical systems to serve the 7,000 sf of addition.
Split system air-handling units with either wall-mounted, or duct-mounted dehumidifiers were used to heat, ventilate, air-condition, and dehumidify the fitness rooms. The use of dehumidifiers kept the size of the split systems small, as they did not need to be oversized to meet the high latent load of the spaces. The dehumidifiers also avoided the use of reheat for humidity control.
The pool area humidity control is accomplished with outside air brought in through a heat recovery unit.
