St. Johnsbury Center for the Arts is a 30,000 square foot facility accommodating the visual and performing arts. The building has a small theater, chorus, dance, band, photography rooms, three studios, and an administration area. As the mechanical engineers, we were instrumental in establishing an interior environment that is comfortable while being acoustically sensitive and draft-free. In a facility that is often not fully utilized during any given day, zoning was essential for energy conservation.

Ten small air handling units with sound attenuation provided the quiet heating and cooling required for each of the zones. A four-pipe system handles heating and cooling. For energy conservation, direct digital controls, variable frequency drives, and an energy efficient chiller were used.
